Drones are not just used by the military for order-building, but also by the police for law enforcement. They are used for ongoing criminal investigations and also help the fire department to monitor fires. According to Melissa Hayes from the State House Bureau, drones or UAVs cannot be equipped with firearms or prohibited weapons.

Security

Drones used by the Law Enforcement are smaller than the ones used in the military and their missions are very specific such as monitoring traffic accidents, forensics, emergency and disaster responses and crowd control. Drones can be used to monitor non-violent situations to gather data that police could later use to make arrests or for criminal investigative purposes.

Different sensors are being used by law enforcement drones, depending on their missions, which are thermal sensors, infrared cameras, sensors that detect movement, automated license plate readers and GPS.

According to Epic.org, in the future drones may include facial recognition technology that would help to remotely identify individuals in parks, schools, and at political gatherings.
